CHOO CHOO PRESS

Choo Choo Press is a non-profit publishing project dedicated to poetry, artists' books, and thoughtful nonfiction.

We publish 3-4 books a year, mostly by queer and women artists. Just as we seek out singular perspectives that challenge familiar narratives, we question the book as a fixed object, resisting expectations of what a book (or author) "should be" in order to invite the wholly new. We dream of a practice that is founded in collaboration and possibility, that sees no true hierarchy in the publishing process.

In practice, production is handled in-house with the help of our authors and community. We use a Riso SF 5450 EIIU in the following four colors: Black, Cornflower, Fluorescent Pink, and Sunflower. All paper is 100% post-consumer waste, and we use as much recylable packaging as we can. Print runs are typically 150-250 copies.

To see our books in person, drop by the following NY bookstores: McNally Jackson, Quimby's, Black Spring Books, Topos Bookstore, Unnameable Books. We're also stocked at Grolier Poetry in Boston and Found in Wedding in Berlin. Just ask for the zine section :)

Finally, Choo Choo Press is dedicated to the accessibility and longevity of its publications. We maintain both physical and digital archives of past work and continuously partner with various zine libraries and collections. As of late, select poetry chapbooks are housed at the Poets House library and at the Asian American Writer's Workshop, where they are available to read free of charge.
